Resources

This page will provide you with a number of resources associated with growing food and other plants.

DIY Potting Soil and Seed Starting Mix

General Potting Soil recipe

3 parts coconut coir 3 parts compost
1 part perlite

Soilless Potting Soil

2 parts coco coiri
1 part perlite
1/4-1/2 parts vermiculite

Seed Starting Mix

* 8 parts (pre-moistened) coco coir or peat moss (we recommend coco coir rather than peat moss as a more sustainable option)
* 1 part vermiculite
* 1 part perlite or pumice
* 1 tablespoon garden lime per gallon (if you use peat moss)

Pollinator Resources

Encouraging pollinators to your garden is critical for sucessful pollination and survival of native pollinators that we rely on.  The following files provide information on native bees.

Additional resources for Pacific Northwest garden pollinators can be found here.  xerces.org/pollinator-resource-center/pnw

Oregon Bee Project:
www.oregonbeeproject.org/citizen-scientist

Washington Native Bee Society:  https://www.wanativebeesociety.org/

If you would like to do more to help native bees check out these resources.

These files will help you identify the various bees you observe in your garden.  The Observer Bee Ebook is designed to foster the art and science of observing nature. Each set provides information about key traits and techniques necessary to make accurate and useful scientific observations. The cards are not designed to identify species but rather to encourage detailed observations. Take a journal or notebook along with you on your next nature walk and use these cards to guide your explorations.
